A brief write-up on the project:
The entire Sec 3 (28 cadets) squad will be embarking on the project 'Bishan - Heritage Trail' for the attainment of the National Heritage Badge. The heritage trail starts at Catholic High School, and comprises of 10 significant landmarks around this area. The project will be a walking heritage trail (Bishan) aimed at providing students / public with information of the significant landmarks found in Bishan, hence enriching their knowledge and appreciation of these places. The entire walking trail is within a 2-km radius and should not take more than 3 hours to complete it, including the activities.
Note:
All groups are encouraged to visit their allocated landmarks before embarking on their write-up.
Please notify me should there be any visit to any institutions/religious landmarks
Please respect and observe rules and regulations if you are visiting the landmarks, especially mosques.
What to submit by Term 2, Week 1:
1) A write-up of your 2 checkpoints allocated, covering the history of the place, and its significance to Bishan/Singapore. Cadets can do their research at the National Archives, Bishan Library or through interviews with relevant authorities. The write-up should not be more than 150 words (each checkpoint). Please do include old or new photographs in the write-up. Please include where you get your sources (if any) from. For oral interviews, please include the names of those being interviewed.
2) The groups should also brainstorm on the type of activities that can be conducted at each checkpoint. The activities should be fun and educational aimed at providing an insight into the historical / social-cultural significance of the checkpoint.
· If there are any other suggestions or disagreements on the selected places, please feel free to tell me.
· Remember, cooperation is very important.
· Finally, I hope that all of you would work hard on this project and put in your effort for it.
Meanwhile, you can visit this website for more information on some of your checkpoints
