hello fellow cadets, this is junkheng (dwayne) this is my first post. here are some email mr daniel yong send to us, some may not receive this, so i'm posting it here.
Dear Sec 3s
Pardon me for this email but it is quite lengthy and I expect you to read it.
1) Team Spirit and togetherness : This has always been a practice and a given in any unit, in any form of CCA. (T)ogether (E)veryone (A)chieve (M)ore is important if you want the unit to be better. From a simple activity like just now I can see the Sec 3s are helping each other, and even walking together as a squad. Your squad shows you got this team spirit in you. However, from past observations, there were a few occasions some do not display this teamwork, such as 3 weeks ago when the entire squad was punished and scolded for the lack of it. There are some cadets who are slower, some who are not as strong, some who just cant keep up. In my opinion, the 'better' ones are expected to help these cadets to move up and move in unison. Work together. Help each other out. Nobody must be left behind. The entire team scores only if everyone finishes together.
2) Communication : This is essential for point (1) to succeed. From a simple activity conducted, I hope you can see one-way communication is useless. If everyone communicates, questions can be asked, doubts can be cleared and solutions can be seeked, in order for the objectives to be met. The leader in any group is not just the one issuing the order, but is also one who seeks ideas and opinions on how to achieve certain goals. He must hear everyone out.
3) Contribute. Believe in yourself. Have faith : Presently, some of you are still very shy, not so forthcoming in speaking up, do not dare contribute your ideas, etc. There is this fear in you that you will be chided or scolded by your peers or seniors. You are already Sec 3. Have some faith. Be bold. The 'passive' ones must now step forward to show and exhibit your potential to me and the officers/CIs.
The activity implemented earlier was quite adhoc but since the Sec 4 were having lessons, I used the opportunity to address my concerns of your squad. The 3 points above are what I want to see from your squad. I see everyone in your squad as a leader, and a responsible senior to your future junior cadets. You must start to observe and instill those points mentioned if your squad is to be a truely outstanding one. I want everyone to put in effort to becoming a Sgt and to be an NCO. Train hard.
As mentioned during the activity earlier, your squad will probably find the going tough and rough initially, but remember point (3). In due time, you can only get better, just like finding the fastest way to make a circle.
Mr Yong
Shooting is coming up soon - marksmanship. I expect everyone to be one. The week after MR1 will be the busiest for you. Be prepared.

Hey guys,
remember to do your report on your preferred posts and hand it up on Wednesday. And remember Wednesday is our Dry Prac, so by hook or by crook get your collar pin on your school uniform.
And enjoy the remaining 8 days or so of CNY!
